Mercy-Burlingame sophomore Charlotte Kell has turned into quite a weapon both sides of the ball. Just ask El Camino.
Charlotte Kell
Kell has faced El Camino twice this season, holding the Lady Colts in check without a hit through eight combined innings in the abbreviated mercy-rule softball wins. Friday, Kell led the Bears (6-0 PAL Lake, 17-4 overall) to a 19-1 victory at El Camino, allowing one unearned run on three walks, but no hits while striking out 12. Earlier in the season, March 11, Kell breezed through a three-inning no-hitter in Mercy’s 16-2 win.
Hitting .339 on the season, Kell has also been a catalyst in the Bears’ mercy-rule style offense. She went 3 for 4 with two RBIs Friday, and recorded the first three-hit game of her varsity career in the first matchup against the Colts (2-5, 3-11).
Kell is also riding a streak of 10 straight hitless innings since giving up a double, April 22, in the second inning of an 11-1 win over Lowell-SF. The sophomore responded to the two-bagger by Lowell sophomore Sarah Ng by striking out the last seven Cardinals she faced. Kell then fired three hitless innings, last Wednesday, before giving way to freshman reliever Olivia Eastburn in a 5-1 win over Half Moon Bay.
The right-hander now touts an 8-2 record with a 2.89 ERA.
Mercy is taking its name literally this season, winning a majority of its games via mercy-rule. The Bears are batting .390 as a team.
Sophomore Isabel Reburiano and freshman Fefe Alusa paced Friday’s win. Reburiano was a homer shy of the cycle, going 5 for 5 with a double, a triple, an RBI and four runs scored. Alusa added four hits, including three triples, and five RBIs, boosting her average to .517. Sophomore Viviana Reyes is pacing the Bears with a .538 average.
