Thank you, Ana Mata and the San Mateo Daily Journal for your continued coverage of the death of Andrea Vallebueno and the effort to prevent similar tragedies for those who bike and walk on Holly Street across Highway 101 in San Carlos. (“San Carlos considers solutions for 101 and Holly Street safety” July 19 edition).
The city of San Carlos and SMCTA deserve praise for their rapid response to this horrible loss. Thank you to Mayor Sarah McDowell, Councilman Adam Rak, Assistant City Manager Nil Blackburn, SMCTA staff and the others who put developed the proposed safety improvements. This is a model for how cities should respond to the preventable, but too frequent, deaths of those who walk or bike on our streets.
