Editor,
Despite outside politicians and the San Mateo Daily Journal endorsing the two members, Tuesday’s recall election shows the silent majority is not happy with low-income housing being forced upon Millbrae without the people having a say.
It was democracy at its best as over 70% of the residents showed their voice in not wanting La Quinta Inn to turn into a “homeless hotel.”
Against all odds and outside money, Millbrae grassroots residents successfully recalled two councilmembers who didn’t listen to the people.
Now the county supervisors want to put a ballot measure to overturn Article 34 that is specifically targeted at Millbrae. County residents should be wary how government is taking control of communities’ land and put low-income housing where county supervisors dictate without locals having a say.
If it comes to the ballot this November, the people of Millbrae will overwhelmingly reject it. All county residents must take a stand and stop government in over reaching their authoritative demands.

Thank you for your letter, Mr. Yu. Let’s all, not just Millbrae, vote down any measure attempting to take away our voting rights. We’ve already seen what SMC has attempted to do and there’s no reason to think they’ll “wise” up and operate in the best interests of their residents. In addition to voting down these measures, do not vote for candidates who support these measures. Start noting these candidates and hold them responsible by not voting for them.
