I’d like to thank Michael Weinhauer for his very astute assessment on what’s going on in San Mateo in his July 27 guest perspective “Council turns its back on voters.”
The San Mateo council’s blatant disregard of Measure Y goes against democracy itself and begs the question of what their real end game is.
Hmm ... you think it’s housing? “Housing is all we hear about from our elected officials but when they vote all we get is more commercial office space.”
Well put.

Every new office creates more demand for housing. If we really want to end this “housing crisis” then we have to put a temporary moratorium on office buildings and focus on creating living space.
If we don’t, we will never meet the demand and always be a dog chasing its tail. I guess a moratorium is just too bold, progressive and outside the box for our forward-thinking City Council.
