Dr. Sheila Krotz was recently demoted from principal of Portola Elementary school in the San Bruno Park School District to classroom teacher by Superintendent Matt Duffy. This was her punishment for an entirely appropriate and necessary action: reprimanding a physical educator who failed to take action when a female student’s chest was touched by a male student during a game of tag that the physical educator was monitoring. The school district’s Board of Trustees backed Duffy’s decision in a 4-1 vote; parents, who overwhelmingly favor keeping Dr. Krotz as principal, had no say in the matter.
I wonder if the parents might have recourse to a recall procedure. Clearly, four of the five board members have no interest in protecting vulnerable girls.
