Editor,

The county is staging an election to vote on one proposition. What a waste! Why is this happening? None of the vague allegations mentioned in the glossy flyer justify this extreme measure.

Good morning, Danny

With respect to the March 4 special election, you asked, “Why is this happening? Well, set aside the “glossy flyer” and pick up Judge Cordell’s 408-page report. In her report, Judge Cordell substantiated findings concerning the sheriff's use of racial and homophobic slurs, retaliation against deputies and intimidation of other employees as well as the conflict of interest created by the sheriff’s personal relationship with a former reserve deputy that she hired to join the Sheriff’s Office command staff. Those findings have a lot to do with why this is happening. Do you have any comments about such misconduct?

If you are suggesting approval of Measure A by San Mateo County voters would be an “extreme measure,” could explain how?

There is plenty of “voter remorse” goin’ round, and the people will decide at the ballot box whether to amend the charter and authorize the removal of the sheriff. The Board of Supervisors has made it clear that they believe the sheriff should resign, but they cannot remove her without the consent of the people. Are suggesting the approval of Measure A by San Mateo County voters would be an “extreme measure”? If so, could you explain?

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Swarzman, but you’re going to have to provide your definition of “due process” because the way everyone else sees it, due process, as generally defined is being served. If there were no due process, Corpus would likely have been already tossed to the curb, kind of like how Biden was during his run for an additional term.
