Editor,
The county’s Democratic Central Committee should encourage a diversity of leadership in our local elections in San Mateo County while helping sustain each of our uniquely-historic communities.
On Wednesday, Feb. 21, some of us in San Mateo County received a new political mailer in support of candidates that you should think twice about electing to represent you in District 2 of the San Mateo County Central Democratic Committee.
If you live in the 2nd Supervisorial District (including the city of San Mateo, Foster City and Belmont north of Ralston Avenue), you may also be targeted by this ongoing, misleading ad campaign.
Interestingly, the identified funders of the mailer use a mailing address not in District 2.
Is San Francisco state Sen. Scott Weiner-styled outside influence, attempting to change the local character of our Peninsula towns?
“Paid for by District 2 San Mateo County Neighbors Electing Good Democrats for Central Committee 2024 Supporting Bonilla, Bonini, Corzo, Hindi, Lewis - 1351 Lerida Way, Pacifica, CA 94044.”
This information, which is required by state law, tops the mailing’s last page, but in extremely small print.
Much larger, bottom left, a “WARNING” seems to indicate that those not among the mailer’s slate of candidates are not worthy of being classified Democrats.
I trust the recommendations of Lisa Diaz Nash (mayor of San Mateo), who publicly urges us to:
“Vote for Cliff Robbins, Nicole Fernandez, Jerry Hill, Maureen Freschet and Sarah Fields for SMCDems Central Committee District 2!”

We only have 3 parties in California - the Moderate Left, the Far Left and the Looney Left!
Not a Dem but I agree this seems like the more reasonable group for DCC. Unfortunately the party has moved very far left, particularly in the state legislature. When a Democrat (sorry can't remember her name) voted against her party on a gas tax, she was punished by being stripped of her committee positions. They do tend to vote in lockstep, there are few moderates left. They appear to be scared to cross Scott Wiener, no matter how looney his policy proposals are. Hopefully San Mateo Democrats will vote in some old school common sense Democrats who start to turn this ship around.
Perhaps part of Scott Wiener's purpose in life is to keep his name (and picture) out there in the local media. If he's termed out before Congress person Pelosi steps aside, someone else may have usurped his "place in line" to succeed her.
