Kudos to the Nov. 17 Daily Journal article remembering Jonestown and Leo Ryan's tragic, but heroic role in the jungles of Guyana. I live in Foster City near Ryan's Park and I don't think enough residents understand the significance of the park's namesake. My parents knew Ryan and I have his photo in my family album as he attended my mother's graduation from college. She, in turn, put my brother along with me to work when we were four and five years old stuffing envelopes for one of Ryan's campaigns. I was only 12 years old when Congressman Ryan died in Guyana. I can still recall the heavy sadness I felt when I heard the news, comprehending even at that young age that the world had lost someone special.
