You may not be aware that you have a large number of readership and advertisers among the Filipino-American community. So you may not have cared at all about the negative reactions to your publishing of an emaciated boy who "picks up a ribbon at a rubbish filled beach in Manila, Phillipines” featured in the May 13 issue of the Daily Journal.
I am not sure of your or Reuters’ intention in displaying this photo. But whatever it is, you appear to have intended to emphasize the unhealthy figure of the child and the unsanitary environment of the Phillipines. Filipino boys are generally healthy and the Phillipines, with more than 7,000 islands, have mostly clean beaches or coastlines.
Such an impression as you have created does not speak well of the processed, fair reporting of your newspaper; it is a very obvious insult to the Filipino-American community and their mother country, the Phillipines. As one of your readers and advisors, I do not approve of such a slanted piece of publication.
