Gov. Gavin Newsom is fond of characterizing his state as a national — or even global — model in all things good, from economic clout to fighting climate change.

One conspicuous absence on his list of California’s virtues is its public education system, for good reason.

Another informational piece from Dan Walters… For more information regarding the state of CA’s education debacle, I’d recommend following Dan Walters, along with his colleague, Joe Hong, at CalMatters.org. I’d say the quote from Shervaughnna Anderson-Byrd, the director of UCLA’s California Reading & Literature Project, at the end of Joe Hong’s “Pandemic catch up: What will it take for left-behind students to learn to read?” article regarding kids is accurate. “There is no normal. It’s almost criminal to throw them back into the system and expect things to be normal.”
