When Ken Cory, an assemblyman from Orange County, was running for state controller 49 years ago, he portrayed himself as “the man oil companies fear the most.”

Ever since, California politicians have periodically — when it seemed advantageous — denounced the companies that supply Californians with automobile fuel and other petroleum-based products.

Wow Dan, I guess you're not in the "human augmented climate change" camp. If you were I would think you'd accept Newsom's actions as being in line with his earnest concern. Even if he as a four fyear old when his family got rich while knowingly surpressing their knowledge of carbon fuel's connection to the early predictions about the coming climate chaos we see today, the fact that he's "all hands on deck" presently would ring all the more true. He does indeed fly on jets but you tend to run out of juice with the battery/solar powered puddle jumpers that are flying today.

All in all your column as a rule makes some good sense but I guess having deadline induces some sloppy output.

Cheers anyway Dan

Come on Mike - don't be naive. It is election season again. He can't do anything about the homeless, our budget deficits, wild fires, drug abuse, but he can take on the oil companies? A cheap shot. That will lead to nothing but a waste of taxpayer-funded attorney fees. Being earnest for Newcome is about equal with the garbage coming from the WH, just politics.

Dirk, you’ve been on fire lately… keep the great commentary coming, early and often.

Gavin, like all of his ilk, can only make proclamations with his finger in the air to see which way the wind his blowing. He never can work, he is not qualified to do anything.
