Wow, where to start.

While newcomers criticizing old practices is certainly not new, it is a bit surprising to find a 60-year-old codebase representing just about 60 million lines of code, a lot of quirks, and $2.4 trillion in Social Security benefits annually being an early target. Yes it’s old, yes it’s complex. This is where the focus goes?

Thanks for your column, Ms. Tsai. Your column today reminds me of a Victor Davis Hanson column penned last week (https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2025/02/28/who_caused_the_counter-revolution_152439.html) which effectively addresses and counters many criticisms of the Trump administration. And why Trump and Elon Musk and his band of merry men are doing what they’re doing, with the approval, I might add, from folks who voted for Trump and even now, as Trump and his policies receive high marks.

It seems many opposed to DOGE complain and cherry-pick examples of why DOGE is “wrong” but fail to mention the waste, fraud, and abuse being uncovered by DOGE. We see multiple complaints about the speed and scale of DOGE, some valid, but no alternatives are proposed. As it is now, I, and many polled wholeheartedly approve of DOGE and their actions. Of note from Mr. Hanson’s article, “Who is the real callous actor -- Elon Musk, who is trying to prevent the country from insolvency by eliminating fraud and waste, or those who bloated the bureaucracy in the first place with jobs and subsidies for their constituents, friends, clients, and fellow ideologues?”

Astute observation and we should ask the question as to whether folks opposing DOGE have something to lose because they’re profiting from programs DOGE is uncovering as wasteful, fraudulent, and abusive. There are reports, more each day that those celebrated by the left as “whistleblowers” or those who criticize DOGE are profiting greatly from, as VDH writes, “jobs and subsidies for their constituents, friends, clients, and fellow ideologues.” More power to DOGE. In fact, let’s expand DOGE across the country. BTW, I hear Newsom is planning on requiring state employees to work in the office 4-days/week. I wonder whether we’ll have state employees singing/protesting in front of state buildings at this “horror.”
