Samuel Mass

Sam was born in Bridgetown, Barbados on May 13, 1936. At age 7, his family moved to Georgetown, British Guinea. Throughout his life, Sam shared vivid memories of summers in the jungle, working in his family’s lumber company.

In 1949, Sam’s family moved to New York City and realized their dream of becoming U.S. citizens.

As an adult, Sam moved his young family to San Carlos in 1964, where he resided until his passing on June 14. He left this world peacefully, with his loving wife and son at his side.

Sam is remembered as a strong role model for his steadfast work ethic and abundant sense of humor. He will be missed by countless friends, including his close-knit poker group, with whom he shared stories and laughs for over 40 years.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Merlyn, and sons Alan and David. His grandchildren Samantha and Zachary are thankful to know that their Papa is now an angel watching over them.

He is also survived by his sisters Doris Kassner and Helen Levy, and brother Jack Mass, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sam’s younger brother Joe Mass preceded him to heaven.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Pathway Hospice Foundation, 585 No Mary Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94085 or the American Diabetes Foundation or a charity of your choice.
