OCOTILLO, Calif. — A moderate earthquake and scores of smaller ones have rocked the California desert near the US-Mexico border in an area where a magnitude-7.2 quake slammed cities on both sides two weeks earlier.
A preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-4.3 quake struck at 9:26 p.m. Sunday in a remote area nine miles east of the tiny town of Ocotillo, Calif.
A dispatcher with the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department says there have been no reports of any damages or injuries, but people at the station felt significant shaking.
The quake was centered about 40 miles northwest of the powerful temblor on April 4 that killed two people in Mexico and caused millions in damage in the cities of Calexico, Calif. and Mexicali, Mexico.
