Assistant Sheriff Trisha Sanchez was named undersheriff by acting San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos, it was announced Wednesday.
A longtime member of the Sheriff’s Office, Sanchez began her career in law enforcement as a reserve deputy with the Sheriff’s Office in 1987. She has worked her way through the ranks and was appointed to her current position as assistant sheriff in 2008.
Bolanos was named sheriff by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Tuesday in a 3-2 vote to fill out the term of Greg Munks, who is retiring because of health reasons.
Bolanos, the current undersheriff, takes over the sheriff’s job July 17.
The board was faced with either appointing a replacement for Munks or calling an election for this November’s ballot to give the public a chance to choose the county’s next top cop.
Sanchez earned both a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s of arts degree in Public Sector Leadership from Saint Mary’s College of California. She is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy and the United States Military Academy’s West Point Leadership Program presented in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Her swearing-in ceremony date will be forthcoming.
