A South San Francisco man accused of impregnating his 13-year-old niece is facing life in prison for the seven felony counts of aggravated child molestation, forcible child molestation and continuous sexual abuse with which he was charged Thursday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Between September 2016 and February 2017, Rigoberto Castro, 42, allegedly had sexual relations with his niece on multiple occasions. The teen’s mother discovered she was pregnant during a visit to the doctor in April, when the alleged abuse was reported to police, according to prosecutors.
The teen gave birth to a child in May and Castro’s paternity of the child was confirmed through a DNA test, according to prosecutors.
Castro was arrested July 26, a day after police obtained a warrant, and he remains in custody on $3.5 million bail. When he appeared in court Thursday, the county’s private defender program was appointed to represent him and an order that he not contact the victim was issued. He will next appear Aug. 3 so a defense attorney can be assigned to his case and for entry of plea, according to prosecutors.
