San Bruno Fire Chief Ari Delay will retire this October after leading the city’s department over the last five years.
“Chief Delay has led the San Bruno Fire Department with the utmost professionalism and commitment to keeping our community safe,” City Manager Alex McIntyre in a press release. “Under his leadership, the San Bruno Fire Department has provided world-class responses to a wide range of emergency incidents.”
McIntyre added that Delay expanded safety and education to firefighters and the community, while developing critical wildfire prevention and mitigation programs in Crestmoor Canyon and throughout the city.
Delay began his career as a volunteer firefighter in the La Honda Fire Brigade before working for the U.S. Forest Service in the Tahoe National Forest and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in Mendocino. Since 1997, he has worked in San Mateo County, in Half Moon Bay and later San Bruno.
“I would like to extend my deep thanks to the City Council, City staff, firefighters, community-based organizations and the residents of San Bruno for their support of our department,” Delay said in the press release.
The city will begin a nationwide search for a new chief, the release added.
