Reigniting a conversation held before, Redwood City residents have asked for the City Council to remove its virtual public comment restrictions to promote civic engagement, but the city continues to cite concerns.

Nina and Steven Goodale, Redwood Shores residents, wrote a letter to councilmembers April 12 explaining the need for complete accessibility to participate in local government.

Let's follow the evidence here:

- The Redwood Life project is happening in Redwood Shores - the district that voted for Jeff Gee

- Redwood Shores is quite a ways away from Redwood City - so attendance at city council meetings is somewhat harder for residents

- During the pandemic many cities and school districts allowed public comment via zoom calls - commonly welcomed as a great idea to increase public participation.

- In 2023 several jurisdiction in short order shut down the infrastructure again - due to "zoom bombings" were people would start with antisemitic or racist rantings.

- In some cases these might have been real calls, but you can also hire zoom bombers and paid crisis actors to do the deed for you.

- Invited or uninvited zoom bombings gave some cities and school district an easy excuse to shut down public zoom comment for good.

- Of course other cities were completely capable of dealing with the issue in a professional way - and continued allowing remote public participation.

We can therefore assume that Jeff Gee does not really want to hear what his constituents from district 1 really have to say about his favorite project.

Redwood Shores voters should always remember that.
