A 42-year-old Belmont resident has been charged with felony arson and child endangerment for allegedly setting a plastic receptacle of his ex-girlfriend’s clothes alight, catching fire to a shed and melting the window of the main house where his school-aged child was sleeping, San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Shin-Mee Chang said.
The man, Carlos Lazarte, will be arraigned Oct. 8.
The fire, which occurred in Belmont on Sept. 7, allegedly melted the window to the main house from the heat of the burning shed alone, Chang said. Lazarte has also been charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.
