An investigation stemming from a Sept. 8, report of a theft of a donation box from Our Lady of the Pillar Church in Half Moon Bay, led sheriff’s deputies to the arrest of a 58-year-old man.
Witnesses had observed the man, identified as Shawn M. Decosta, inside the chapel removing money from a secured candle stand before fleeing. He was identified using witness statements, evidence from the chapel, surveillance footage and, ultimately, a photo lineup, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
