A San Mateo man allegedly stole his roommate’s car, then crashed it into an unoccupied parked catering trailer, causing damage to it, the car trailing it and another car, after sideswiping another parked car Sunday afternoon on the 100 block of 16th Avenue, according to police.

At about 1:59 p.m., San Mateo police were called to the area on the report of a crash, where they saw a Ford Explorer that caused it and the driver missing. Witnesses directed police to an apartment complex on the 1400 block of South B Street where a perimeter was established but the driver was not found. Police did find the roommate who said the person who took the Ford was Miguel Garcia, 38, and that it was taken without permission, according to police.
