A jury found a 50-year-old Half Moon Bay man guilty of attempted murder for shooting at a neighbor in July at the same Half Moon Bay mushroom farm where a deadly mass shooting happened in January, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Martin Medina was employed as a manager California Terra Gardens and lived in a mobile home on the property. He also found guilty of felony threats, felony shooting and felony residential burglary, Wagstaffe said.
Medina said he would kill the man’s family and tried to open the door of the victim’s home in July 2022. When the man tried to look through the glass, Medina shot through it, with the bullet going through to the adjoining trailer instead, the DA’s Office said.
Medina then ran away, and deputies later arrested him after finding him walking with his dog, the DA’s Office said.
No one was injured during the incident, and Medina will be formally sentenced Aug. 29. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
“There’s no room for weapons and anger in our community, and poor Half Moon Bay has been plagued with that,” Wagstaffe said. “I’m glad we can bring some justice.”
The farms where the shootings occurred are in the unincorporated area outside of Half Moon Bay and under the jurisdiction and policing powers of San Mateo County, not the City, and one would expect the District Attorney to be aware of that.
