For a taste of Basque culture, come to South City

Daily Journal file photo Basque Cultural Center restaurant General Manager Francois Camou talks to customers during the busy lunch hour.

Adventurous diners have no doubt already discovered the out of the way Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco. To the local Basques, however it is more than just a restaurant. It is, as the name clearly states, a cultural center. This also means that it has a fronton for playing Jai Alai, a Basque national sport also known as Pelota. In this country, Jai Alai is better known in Florida, where betting on the game is permitted.
