Gov. Gray Davis filled two vacancies on the bench of the San Mateo County Superior Court today, announcing the appointments of a deputy district attorney and a deputy county counsel to take the posts.
Jonathan Karesh, 40, a Foster City attorney who spent the last 10 years in the district attorney's office, will take the place of retiring Judge Gregory Jensen, according to Davis' office.
For the last seven years, Karesh has been assigned primarily to the prosecution of felony narcotics violations and asset forfeiture cases in the county's superior court. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley and completed his education in the law at Berkeley's Boalt Hall.
Beth Labson Freeman, 47, of Hillsborough, has been selected to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Aram Serverian, Davis' office announced.
Freeman has spent the last 18 years in the county counsel's office, working on the defense of employment, civil rights and personal injury claims as well as prosecution of child abuse and dependency cases. She is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and Harvard Law School, and a member of the bar association in California as well as Washington, D.C., Maviglio said.<
