A 68-year-old San Bruno assisted living resident who allegedly grabbed a toddler as she crossed the street with her mother and has a history of touching women and walking around naked will stand trial, a judge ruled.
After a preliminary hearing, a judge found sufficient evidence to try Hira Singh on charges of attempted kidnapping and false imprisonment. He returns to court June 7 to enter a Superior Court plea and set a trial date.
On May 4, according to the District Attorney’s Office, Singh approached the family — a woman with a 2- and 7-year-old-child — as they crossed the street and grabbed the youngest from behind. He let go when the mother screamed and grabbed the child’s leg, according to the prosecution. Singh reportedly told San Bruno police he only wanted to hug the child. Staff at his home facility later told police he is constantly touching women on breaks and sometimes walks around naked.
Singh remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Trial to be set for molestation defendant
A 35-year-old man acquitted two years ago of child molestation will learn next month when he’ll stand trial on four counts of lewd behavior against two young girls he reportedly touched inappropriately at a Belmont apartment complex in September.
Jose Urbina Pinon is charged with the four felonies plus the special allegation he molested more than one child. On Sept. 17, Pinon touched two girls, 8 and 9 years old, at the complex, according to prosecutors. On Oct. 8, 2003, a jury found Pinon not guilty of one similar charge. Pinon was expected to set a trial date yesterday but postponed it until June 27. Pinon is in custody in lieu of $500,000 bail.
