Days after a new trial date was set for a Hillsborough woman charged with conspiring to murder the father of her two children along with two alleged co-conspirators, attorneys for her and her boyfriend are asking for more time to prepare for trial, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The almost two-year-old case was set for a March 12 jury trial Jan. 2 when Olivier Adella, 42, withdrew his waiver to his right to a speedy trial. But attorneys for 32-year-old Tiffany Li and her 31-year-old boyfriend Kaveh Bayat are preparing a detailed memo outlining their case for delaying the trial date further before the trio appears in court again Jan. 19, according to prosecutors.
A motion filed Jan. 3 by attorneys for Li and Bayat indicated they would need at least six months to prepare for jury trial, but the motion was withdrawn Friday after Adella’s attorney objected to the motion and Judge Stephanie Garratt said she would need more detail on why additional time is needed, according to prosecutors.
Charged with conspiring to murder Keith Green, a Millbrae man and father of her children, Li posted $35 million bail by putting up several Bay Area properties valued at $62 million along with $4 million in cash in April. Bayat was assigned $35 million bail in June but remains in custody, while Adella remains in custody on no bail status, according to prosecutors.
Li, along with Bayat, who is believed to have pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Green, and Adella, a Burlingame man who’s been accused as the muscle behind the crime, are facing murder charges in the shooting death of 27-year-old Green, with whom Li was alleged to have a custody dispute at the time of his disappearance April 29, 2016, according to prosecutors.
Almost two weeks after he met up with Li at a Millbrae pancake house the evening he disappeared, Green’s body was discovered near a Sonoma County homeless encampment May 11, according to prosecutors.
