“Since yesterday, he is no longer employed as a police officer of the state,” Lotti said.
The former officer, 35-year-old Filipe Gomes, is a resident of Redwood City and was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail April 21, Redwood City police Capt. Ashley Osborne said in an email.
Gomes was placed on administrative leave that same day, Lotti said, and subsequently posted a $100,000 bail, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
The incident is alleged to have occurred when Gomes was off-duty and “is not related to his occupation as a police officer,” Osborne said in an email.
The information presented does not lead the police department to believe there is any danger to the general public, Osborne said.
When the case is sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review, it will be submitted under the penal code section for rape, Osborne said. The Redwood City Police Department and the Belmont Police Department could offer no further information at this time.
The case will be reviewed by the DA’s Office in the coming weeks, Wagstaffe said, with an appearance date for Gomes set May 21.
