A 40-year-old Belmont resident has been charged with residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly attempting to burglarize his neighbor’s apartment Dec. 7, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Marco Bravo, was allegedly found in a Belmont apartment on the 300 block of Oxford Way on Sunday at 10:55 p.m. rummaging through the victim’s bedroom, Wagstaffe said. Bravo lives in the same apartment complex, Wagstaffe said.
Upon being confronted by the victim, who was in the process of moving out, Bravo allegedly said “you guys aren’t supposed to be here” and ran out of the apartment, only to later charge the victim with a knife, Wagstaffe said. The victim slammed the door shut before Bravo was able to enter the apartment and called the Belmont Police Department, who arrested Bravo around the scene of the crime shortly after, Wagstaffe said.
Two credit cards were removed from the victim’s desk and have not been located.
Bravo, who faces up to eight years in prison if convicted, pleaded not guilty and will go to preliminary hearing Dec. 17. He was released on supervised recognizance.
