A report of a vehicle theft related to a residence on the 400 block of North Idaho Street in San Mateo the evening of July 15, was tied to multiple reports of auto burglaries in the area with the same possible suspect.
Investigation went into the following day and the suspect vehicle was located, with outside agencies also trying to stop him. Even with air support, the vehicle failed to yield, according to police.
The vehicle ultimately stopped in San Francisco, and the suspect, identified as Brian Tapia, 30, of San Leandro, initially fled on foot, but was ultimately arrested for vehicle theft, vehicle tampering, petty theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance without prescription. Tapia was transported to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was booked for his charges, according to police.
