Some higher elevations in the Bay Area saw a dusting of snow on Thursday amid scattered showers that were reported around the region, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service said.
Snow was reported along the Diablo Range, Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Lucia Mountains on Thursday, though “it wasn’t very widespread,” meteorologist Brayden Murdock said.
“Today it kind of lined up where we had some rainmakers coming through the area that met some of the cold air at these higher elevations and it was just cold enough that we saw some dusting of snow,” Murdock said.
He said this is the time of year when the Bay Area can occasionally see snow on some of its mountains, with 2023 being another time when snow was reported in late February into March.
On Wednesday, heavy rain and wind gusts that reached 70 to 80 mph blew through parts of the Bay Area. More precipitation is in the forecast for some of the next several days, starting early Friday and then with another system on Sunday into Monday, though not with as extreme rain or wind as Wednesday, according to the weather service.
