The Portola Art Gallery presents “Whispers of Bloom” — paintings by Menlo Park artist Alice Weil. Weil’s new body of work uses loose, impressionistic brushwork suggesting the lightness of blossoms flowing over the canvas. She hopes that the viewer experiences her artwork in quiet reflection, relaxing the eye and opening up the paintings through his or her imagination and contemplation. Weil, born in San Francisco, was exposed to art and inspired by a close family friend and neighbor. She says, “To this day, the smell of turpentine, linseed oil and paint sweeps me back to a studio in the hills of Redwood City. Who knows what sparks a lifetime artistic journey?”
“Whispers of Bloom” — Paintings by Alice Weil is on view through Aug. 31 at Portola Art Gallery at Allied Arts Guild, 75 Arbor Road, Menlo Park. A reception for the artist is scheduled 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. For more information call (650) 321-0220 or visit http://www.portolaartgallery.com.
