Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to his late-night show after ABC lifts suspension
NEW YORK (AP) — ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is set to return to the air, with millions of people expected to watch to see how he addresses his nearly weeklong suspension. Another mystery is how many ABC affiliates will actually carry his return Tuesday. Kimmel's suspension by ABC following remarks about the aftermath of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's death triggered a national discussion about freedom of speech and President Donald Trump's ability to police the words of journalists, commentators and even comics. The return reportedly came after negotiations between Kimmel and executives for ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney. ABC said Kimmel would return after the network had “thoughtful conversations” with the host.
Movie Review: 'One Battle After Another' is an American masterpiece
In Paul Thomas Anderson’s gloriously messy, madcap roller coaster ride through modern America, objects in the rear view may go out of sight, but they don’t disappear. Political struggles never die in “One Battle After Another,” they just repeat. Or maybe they grow older and become paranoid, pot-smoking, pajama-wearers like Leonardo DiCaprio's Bob Ferguson, a washed-up revolutionary living off the grid with his daughter. The cycles of oppression and resistance are palpably felt in Anderson’s film, a decades-spanning odyssey where gun violence, white power and immigrant deportations recur in an ongoing dance, both farcical and tragic, writes Associated Press Film Writer Jake Coyle in his review.
Defense tells judge Sean 'Diddy' Combs has served enough time behind bars
NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs are urging a judge to sentence him early next month to no more than 14 months in prison for his conviction on two prostitution-related charges. The lawyers made their arguments Monday in a written submission to New York federal Judge Arun Subramanian. He's already rejected bail for Combs, signaling that he believes he must serve more time behind bars despite being exonerated in July of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. Prosecutors, who will submit their recommendations prior to the Oct. 3 sentencing, have already said they'll urge Combs stay imprisoned substantially longer than the four to five years they originally thought.
Guillermo del Toro almost lost his movie memorabilia in a wildfire. Now, he's letting some of it go
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Guillermo del Toro rose to fame creating horror movies that will likely help shape the genre for generations to come. But, at his core, the Mexican-born horror buff is a collector. Heritage Auctions announced Thursday that a fraction of del Toro's sprawling collection will be up for grabs. Del Toro told The Associated Press he felt inclined to give away some items after the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year came dangerously close to the so-called Bleak Houses, where he stores the collection. Online bidding began Thursday and the auction will take place on Sept. 26. A second and third part of the auction series will come next year.
Music Review: Geese's 'Getting Killed' is the inventive Brooklyn band's most accessible album yet
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Geese's third studio album, “Getting Killed,” showcases a shift from their previous lo-fi post-punk style to a more accessible sound. The intense opening track contrasts with the rest of the album's easy-listening vibe, writes The Associated Press’ Krysta Fauria. The album moves away from the alt-country concept of their last album. Tracks like “Cobra” and “Islands of Men” highlight soulful elements and unique structures. While the lyrics are often irreverent, Cameron Winter's distinctive voice adds depth. Fans of Geese's earlier work might feel ambivalent about the band's trajectory, but it broadens their appeal.

Why was Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show suspended and then reinstated? Here's what we know
NEW YORK (AP) — ABC will reinstate Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show after having pulled it off the air indefinitely. The unprecedented suspension followed backlash over Kimmel's remarks about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel criticized President Donald Trump and his supporters for their response, accusing them of trying to politicize the murder. The Federal Communications Commission had warned the network of repercussions if Kimmel wasn't punished. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr called Kimmel's comments “truly sick.” Two of ABC’s largest affiliates, Nexstar and Sinclair, say they won't run Kimmel's show when it returns Tuesday.

Tiger fatally mauls handler during big cat show in Oklahoma, sheriff says
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Officials say a large tiger fatally attacked an animal handler as horrified onlookers watched during the end of a big cat show at a preserve in southeastern Oklahoma. Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park says 37-year-old Ryan Easley was killed in the attack Saturday at the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve near Hugo. Park says the tiger unexpectedly started to bite and then shake Easley while the two were inside of a large cage. Park says Easley’s wife and young daughter were present when the attack occurred. Messages left Monday with Growler Pines Tiger Preserve were not immediately returned.
Pamela Anderson leads the way for women who choose to go makeup free
NEW YORK (AP) — Pamela Anderson has embraced a makeup-free lifestyle at 58, attending fashion shows and film premieres with a bare face. She describes it as freeing, saying she's not trying to be the prettiest in the room. She and other celebrities like Alicia Keys have inspired some women to do the same, though it can be challenging in traditional workplaces. Stylists and beauty experts suggest focusing on skincare, using products with hydration and no-makeup tricks to enhance natural features. Stylist Natalie Tincher encourages using color and texture in clothing to make a statement. For some, ditching makeup feels liberating and cost-effective.
A timeline of Trump's fights with media, including Jimmy Kimmel
President Donald Trump’s contentious relationship with U.S. news organizations over his time in office has led to a host of legal battles and disputes. ABC's suspension and — days later — return of the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show is the latest example. Trump had celebrated the suspension of the veteran late-night comic and frequent critic of the president and his policies. Kimmel’s monologue had included a reference to the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. A federal judge has also tossed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit Trump filed earlier this month against The New York Times.
