Menlo-Atherton High School announced the latest inductions into its Athletics Hall of Fame, with a class of 11 constituting the 2016 class.
The biggest name being honored is former long-time girls’ basketball coach Pam Wimberly, who led the Bears from 1968 to 2012. During her time, which also included 24 years as the school’s athletic director, Wimberly won 663 games, 20 league titles and four Central Coast Section championships.
Jan Henne, a 1965 graduate, went on to win a pair of Olympic gold medals in swimming in the 1968 games in Mexico City.
Fred Decker was the goalkeeper on the 1972 and 1973 South Peninsula Athletic League boys’ soccer championship teams, before going to play collegiately at UCLA and professionally with the Los Angeles Aztecs.
Cheryl Nicholson was a softball standout prior to her 2000 graduation. She owns several school records, earned All-CCS honors and earned a scholarship to play at St. Martins College in Washington. In 2002, she rode a bike across the country, raising $14,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
2003 graduate TC Ostrander led the Bears to their first CCS football championship in 2002. As the starting quarterback, Ostrander threw for more than 3,000 yards and 44 touchdowns. He finished his senior year as the second-ranked quarterback in the state. He went on to a college career at Stanford and had a stint in the NFL as well.
Saana Rapakko, a golf standout who graduated in 2004, helped lead the Bears to an undefeated regular-season title as well as the CCS championship. She walked on at Stanford and played four years for the Cardinal, being named co-captain her senior year.
Edwin Pech was a wrestler who graduated in 2007. During his junior year, he finished fourth at CCS. His senior year, he posted and undefeated regular-season record and finished second in the section championships.
Three teams were also inducted. The 1960 boys’ track and field team was the only class in school history to win a North Coast Section championship, setting a number of school records that still stand. The 1961 boys’ water polo team was considered the best team in the nation, while the 1991 girls’ basketball team won the school’s second straight CCS crown.
A pair of athletic boosters, Kerry and Howie Dallmar, were also inducted. They helped resurrect the boosters club from 2001 to 2004.
