While the Woodside baseball team is out of the running for a Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division championship, the Wildcats are still trying to pile up as many wins as possible for the opportunity to grab an at-large bid.
Hosting South City Tuesday, the Wildcats and Warriors found themselves on a roller coaster ride that ended in the 11th inning.
Both teams led, both trailed and ultimately it was Woodside that pulled out a 13-9 win, a game that ended on a Cruz Torres grand slam.
South City (1-10 PAL Ocean, 8-16 overall), which tied the game at 6-all following a two-run fifth, scored three times in the top of the 11th to for a 9-6 advantage.
But Woodside (5-6, 11-10) came roaring back. The Wildcats scored three runs and had the bases full with two out and Torres at the plate. The senior worked the count full before unloading for a walk-off grand slam.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and increased it to 4-0 with a three-run third before the Wildcats fired back with a six-spot in the bottom of the third. South City rallied, however, scoring twice in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 6-all.
After that, pitching took over the next four innings. Anderson Comfort picked up the win with six innings of relief of Jax Enochs, who worked the first five. John Tinson and Matteus Mokhtarani each added two RBIs for Woodside.
Josh Ornelas had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for South City, while Dylan Munsayac also drove in two runs for the Warriors.
TUESDAY
Baseball
Sacred Heart Prep 3, Terra Nova 0
In a match up of two of the top pitchers in the Ocean Division, the Gators moved one step closer to the division title as SHP’s Rallin Covey out-dueled Terra Nova’s Jesse Martinez.
Covey worked the first six innings for SHP (10-1 PAL Ocean, 18-5 overall), giving up just three hits. Nico Pollioni came on in the seventh to secure the save.
Martinez went the distance for Terra Nova (7-4, 14-10), giving up three runs while scattering seven hits and striking out seven.
The Gators took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third and it stayed that way until scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth. JP Durrett went deep and drove in two runs for SHP, with Thomas Barton collecting the other RBI.
Joey Donati had one of the three hits for the Tigers, a double.
SHP has a two-game lead over San Mateo with three games left in the regular season.
San Mateo 14, Mills 4
The Bearcats kept their slim Ocean Division title hopes alive with a mercy-rule win over the Vikings.
San Mateo (8-3 PAL Ocean, 17-7 overall) is two games behind division-leading Sacred Heart Prep with three games left. SHP’s sweep of the Bearcats last week gives the Gators the first tiebreak.
The Bearcats put away Tuesday’s game in the bottom of the first inning, scoring 10 runs. Mills (0-11, 4-16) scored four in the top of the fourth, but San Mateo ended the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Jesus Olivas had the big stick for San Mateo, going 3 for 4 with a homer, two doubles, six RBIs and two runs scored. Olivas also got the win on the mound, giving up two earned runs on five hits, striking out six in four innings of work.
Joshua Huei, Nick Lafon and Tyler Yuan all drove in a run for Mills.
Half Moon Bay 5, Aragon 0
The Cougars scored two runs in both the first and second innings as they shut out the Dons.
That was enough offense for Kai Kung, who went the distance for HMB (7-4 PAL Ocean, 13-9 overall), giving up just two hits while striking out 10. Clark Colucci led the offense for the Cougars, driving in a pair of runs.
Aragon falls to 6-5 in Ocean play and 14-9 overall.
El Camino 18, Westmoor 3
The Colts clinched the PAL Lake Division title with a win over the Rams, coupled with Harker’s 3-1 loss to Priory.
El Camino (12-0 PAL Lake, 17-5 overall) holds a four-game lead over both Harker and Priory with three games left in the regular season.
The Colts led 5-3 after Westmoor (5-7, 8-8) scored two runs in the top of the fourth, but El Camino all but ended the game with 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nicolas Jang and hit a grand slam homer and drove in four for El Camino, while Carlos Alcala went deep among his three hits and also drove in four. Quentin Bromaghim got the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
Cristian Fausto doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Westmoor.
Serra 3, Riordan 0
The Padres won for the fifth time in their last six WCAL games, shutting out the Crusaders.
Serra scored two runs in the bottom of the second and added an insurance run in the sixth as the Padres scored three runs on just three hits.

Riley Lim went the distance on the mound for Serra (6-5 WCAL, 16-7 overall), scattering seven hits. William Walbridge homered while Brody Crudeli doubled and drove in a run for the Padres.

Tyler Hanebrink and Christopher Campana each drove in a pair of runs to help lead Crystal (3-8 PAL Lake, 3-12-1 overall) to a 9-4 win over Jefferson (0-12, 1-18) in a PAL Lake Division meeting.
Diego Carrasco and Josiah Hernandez each drove in two runs as Design Tech (11-0 PSAL, 12-6-1 overall) demolished Summit Shasta (7-4, 7-8), 22-0.

Softball
Mercy 10, Castilleja 1
The Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the first and rode that to a Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division victory.
Pitchers Charlotte Kell and Olivia Eastburn combined on a four-hitter for Mercy (7-0 PAL Lake, 18-4 overall), with Kell notching nine of the duo’s 12 strikeouts.
Eastburn also collected three hits and drove in a pair, with McKenna Fua also picking up two RBIs.
Notre Dame-Belmont 7, Menlo-Atherton 6
The Tigers handed the Bears their first loss in PAL Ocean Division play as they evened their overall record.
Trailing 2-1 after two innings, NDB (5-3 PAL Ocean, 11-11-1 overall) took the lead with a three-run third. The Tigers scored twice in the top of the seventh which proved crucial when M-A (5-1, 16-3) scored twice in the bottom of the inning, coming up a run short.
Skylar Loo continued her hot streak for the Tigers, collecting a home run and a double while going 4 for 4 and driving in two runs. Claire Kimball also doubles and drove in a pair for NDB. Caroline Zerella went the distance in the pitcher’s circle in earning the win.
Lavi Taufahema homered and drove in three runs to pace the offense for M-A.
Aragon 5, Woodside 4
The Dons scored three runs in the top of the first and then held off the Wildcats for a key PAL Bay Division win.
Olivia Mukherjee doubled and had two RBIs for Aragon (7-4 PAL Bay, 14-10 overall), as Riley Wideman and Makayla Hafoka combined for the win. Wideman allowed one run on five hits in four innings of work while Hafoka notched the save with three innings of relief.
Caroline Ong doubled and drove two runs lead the offense for Woodside (4-7, 13-8).
Mills 11, King’s Academy 8
The Vikings picked up a big win in their chase for a Central Coast Section playoff spot as they beat the Knights in a Bay Division matchup.
Mills (4-7 PAL Bay, 12-9 overall) scored in each of the first five innings and six of the seven in the game, capping the day with four runs in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of seven King’s errors.
Jazzy Maske went 3 for 5 with three RBIs to lead the Vikings’ offense. G Hillman also drove in a pair.
King’s Academy falls to 4-6 in Bay play and 8-9 overall.
Capuchino 9, Carlmont 0
The Mustangs kept the Scots winless in PAL Bay Division play, limiting them to three hits.
Lily Thomas got it done in the circle and at the plate for Capuchino (5-5 PAL Bay, 9-11 overall). She pitched a complete-game shutout on two hits, striking out nine and walking two. She also tripled twice, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the offense. Kiki Ngaluafe added two RBIs, as well, for the Mustangs.
Carlmont falls to 0-9 in the Bay Division and 3-18-1 overall.

Kendall Hom hit a grand slam to back a three-hit shutout by Adelaide Chuang as Design Tech (7-0 PSAL, 10-4 overall) rolled to a 15-0 Private School Athletic League win over Latino College Prep (1-6, 2-17).
