CSM (27-16) forced a winner-take-all finale against host Modesto Junior College in the three-team regional series at Jerry Streeter Baseball Park. The Bulldogs won Friday in the opener of the double-elimination series 3-1 over Reedley College, backed by eight brilliant innings from sophomore right-hander Michael Volkman. But CSM fell to the elimination bracket Saturday with a 14-6 loss to Modesto, leaving the Bulldogs hoping to win a Sunday doubleheader to advance.
Fueled by freshman Joseph Hoskins’ 3-for-5, three-RBI game, the Bulldogs won Sunday’s opener 9-5 over Modesto. But the Pirates (32-11) — champions of the Big 8 Conference in the regular season — bounced back with a 16-4 win in the nightcap. CSM was hardly ever in it, surrendering five runs in the second and five more in the third, as Modesto banged out 17 hits.
Freshman right-hander Brody Ceyrolles earned saves in both CSM wins. Friday, he followed Volkman’s eighth win of the year with a perfect ninth. Sunday, he saved the win for reliever Jack Molise, striking out four through two hitless innings.

Skyline (31-11) hosted a three-team, double-elimination regional, but could not solve West Valley. The Trojans fell to West Valley (29-13-1) 22-7 in Friday’s opener, before bouncing back Saturday for a 7-2 win over Los Medanos (27-15).
Sophomore left-hander Steven Dalton finished out a fine year Saturday, earning the win to improve to 9-1. Dalton allowed one run on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Freshman right-hander Declan Mendel closed it out with two innings of relief.
Skyline freshman hitter Vinny Smith went 4 for 4 with two RBIs in the win, and freshman Jack Ruegg was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs. The Trojans finish the year the top hitting team in Northern California, ranked third in the state, with a team .349 average.
The Trojans got walloped 16-10 Sunday by West Valley in a winner-take-all finale. Serra grad Joey Damelio was 1 for 5 with a double for the Vikings.
