With Coast Conference North baseball play set to open Tuesday, the Cañada Colts (8-11) snapped a two-game skid by finishing out their non-conference slate last Friday with a 4-3 victory at Cabrillo College (12-8).
Tied 3-all in the seventh, the Colts opened the frame with back-to-back singles from Cole Leschak and Stone Daniel-Savage. After a one-out walk to Nate Turkington loaded the bases, Caven Croom fouled off two 2-2 pitches before grounding one to the right side of the infield to drive home Leschak on an RBI fielder’s choice.
It was a big day for Leschak, who went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI at the plate, and also fired four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. The sophomore right-hander allowed three hits and struck out three in relief of starting pitcher Noah Whittaker. Daniel-Savage added three hits with a double.
In two pitching appearances, Leschak owns a 2-0 record. At the plate, he is slashing .384/.411/.558.
Skyline’s 7-game win streak snapped

The Skyline Trojans (16-4), entering play last Friday riding a seven-game win streak, and having won 13 of their last 14, let a late lead slip away in a 3-2 loss at Gavilan College (8-11) in their final non-conference tuneup of the year.
Skyline led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth, but Gavilan’s Orlando Lewis tied it with a one-out RBI single, before Mateo Alcantar stepped to the plate with two on and two outs and produced a walk-off single to end it. Lewis and Alcantar finished with two hits apiece. Freshman Jacob DuFrene paced the Trojans with two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.
Sophomore starter Steven Dalton worked six innings, allowing one run (none earned) on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman, while striking out nine. Freshman right-hander Anthony Kabrich fired two scoreless innings of relief. Sophomore right-hander Luca Dickinson took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits through two-thirds of an inning. His record falls to. 2-1.
CSM mauled by West Valley
The College of San Mateo Bulldogs (12-6) saw their three-game win streak snapped last Friday with a 9-3 loss at West Valley College. The Vikings (13-5) jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the bottom of the first. CSM cut the lead in the half in the third when sophomore Jeremy Wrona doubled home a run, stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. But West Valley continued adding on, totaling 11 hits on the day.
Max Ghiglieri supplied a solo home run for the Vikings in the fourth, while David Estrada went 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Wrona and freshman Jacob Prettol paced CSM with two hits and one RBI apiece.
