Burlingame and Mills each played spoiler in their respective Peninsula Athletic League matches Thursday, including Mills keeping its long-shot hopes of earning a share of the Ocean Division title alive.
Entering the day a game behind second-place San Mateo in the Ocean standings, Mills (8-3 PAL Ocean, 14-15 overall) moved into a second-place tie with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 sweep at home of San Mateo (8-3, 9-10). With the win, the Lady Vikings, along with Mateo, now trail first-place Capuchino by three games in the PAL Ocean standings with three league games to play. Cap has already clinched at least a share of the league title, and can clinch it outright with its next win, with San Mateo, Westmoor and Mills closing out its regular-season slate.
Burlingame (6-5 PAL Bay, 15-13 overall) was mathematically eliminated from the PAL Bay Division title race Thursday because first-place Menlo-Atherton defeated Sequoia, but the Panthers still impacted the Bay standings with a 27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-12 win over second-place Aragon (8-3, 21-6). By virtue of the loss, Aragon falls into a second-place tie with Carlmont; the two trial M-A by two games in the standings with three league games to go. With the win, Burlingame moves into a fourth-place tie with Sequoia in the ultra-competitive Bay Division.
Mills took down Mateo running its attack through juniors Abigail Purvey and Reanna Ng. Senior setter Noelle Young paced the 6-2 offense with 27 assists to go with three service aces, while sophomore setter Kara da Luz recorded a double-double of 11 assists and 12 digs. Purvey led the attack with 12 kills to go with a .478 hitting percentage, while Ng totaled eight kills and 10 digs.
Burlingame used a four-pronged attack to out-slug Aragon, paced by junior outside hitter Jordan Toomey’s 18 kills. Junior middle Ruby Gemmer added 13 kills while swinging at a .423 clip and totaling five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Ilsa Carlson added 13 kills, senior middle Ava Scatena scored seven kills and four blocks, and senior libero Sam Hollrah totaled 19 digs and three service aces.
Aragon was paced by sophomore Poppy McKenzie’s double-double of 15 kills and 15 digs to go with three blocks and one ace. Sophomore outside hitter Emilia Kunkel also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.

Sacred Heart Prep 3, Harker 1
The Gators (9-0 WBAL Football, 19-6 overall) continued closing in on a West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division with a 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23 win at home over Harker-San Jose (3-6, 10-11). The Game 2 loss marks just the second set SHP has dropped in league play this season. The first came Tuesday in a four-set win at Notre Dame-Belmont.
Senior attacker Poema Ueligitone paced the Gators with 19 kills for the second consecutive match. The total stands as her career-high. Sophomore outside hitter Leilah Abrams added a double-double of 16 kills and 13 digs, junior middle Hadley Mahon totaled four blocks, senior libero Peyton Fu-Sarosa produced 27 digs, and junior Sofia Peypoch was credited with 41 assists.
Capuchino (11-0 PAL Ocean, 19-3 overall) swept to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-12 win at home over Jefferson (2-9, 2-17). Sophomore Mia Santos Stevenson led the Lady Mustangs with eight kills, one block and two aces. Sophomore outside hitter Daniela Enriquez added seven kills, and junior Miya Sekioka added two blocks.
Menlo-Atherton (10-1 PAL Bay, 20-8 overall) earned win No. 20 on the season with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 sweep at Sequoia (6-5, 15-14).
Westmoor (4-7 PAL Ocean, 6-17 overall) swept to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 home win over South City (1-9. 3-18).
Half Moon Bay (3-8 PAL Bay, 13-13 overall) rallied for a 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-15 home win over Woodside (0-11, 1-15).
El Camino (8-3 PAL Ocean, 9-8 overall) earned a 25-23, 25-14, 25-10 sweep at Terra Nova (1-9, 1-17).
Summit Shasta (9-0 PSAL, 22-8 overall) swept 25-6, 25-9, 25-16 at Pacific Bay Christian (2-7, 10-12).
