If there is one ideal invoked by a majority of Democrats these days, it's “Medicare for all.”

Most of the ever-expanding roster of would-be presidents vying to replace Donald Trump in January 2021 have signed on to this plan, introduced into party orthodoxy by Sen. Bernie Sanders in his 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton.

We need to ask those candidates what type of health insurance they now enjoy, it is probably nothing like Medicare. I can't speak for Great Britain but my brother up in British Columbia waited 8 months for hernia surgery and was told to wear a corset in the mean time. My sister in Montreal had to wait 10 months to have knee surgery done and was on disability during that time. Her surgeon had offered to perform the operation right over the border in the US without having to wait but at her own expense. There are likely components of the Canadian system that we could adopt but we should not forget that each province has an annual budget. Once that is exceeded, all surgery, except in acute cases, is suspended until the following budget cycle. In some provinces, it is also illegal to pay for private health care. Is that something we want? Ever wonder why we have so many Canadian medical professionals practicing in the US? Ask Bernie and others to answer that question.
