Editor,
Californians no longer have the right to pass family homes and limited other property to children as before. Voters were tricked into removing this established constitutional protection when they voted for Proposition 19 in 2020.
Renters may feel they don’t need to sign this petition, not owning property. However, renters are also at risk.
Renters benefit because this measure stops sudden death reassessment of family-owned apartment buildings, which could lead to forced sale and takeovers by consortiums or others with higher rents or evictions. Small businesses also benefit.
Young people don’t realize what’s been done to them.
California voters have repeatedly and emphatically rejected death taxes. Proposition 19 is the biggest tax increase in state history.
Families benefit because the death of a parent won’t trigger its loss from massive tax increase on family property.

(Proposition 19 protection for fire victims, disabled and seniors property taxes remain unchanged).
