Feel free to let others know, but recall is not the right response to a difference of opinion. Is Millbrae, is any community better off when all members of an elected body are in lockstep with every decision? We have diverse communities, needing diverse voices. This leads to important conversations and measured decisions.
The two councilmembers facing recall are two of five voices, they are not controlling the outcome of the debate in this case. Take the old-fashioned, and so much more constructive step — don’t vote for these folks next time they run. Maybe even decide to run against them. Recall is an expensive option that works against the community’s interest in the long run.
Thanks for your opinion, Ms. Jansen. If a recall is a tool in the toolbox then it may be used if enough folks feel it should. As for a recall being an “expensive” option, the bigger question is how much more “expensive” it would be if these councilmembers remain in office. Perhaps this recall will be money well spent in the long run for the community’s interest.
