Letter to the editor

I would like to respond to Fred Walker’s letter to the editor of Aug. 13 which seems to go along with the Bush administration and AIPAC’s relentless media disinformation campaign aimed at attacking Iran. Apparently, these folks think we haven’t spilled enough blood or wasted enough money on our two current disastrous wars against the evil Muslims in the Middle-East. We should sure-nuff teach ‘em a lesson and take on Iran too. Mr. Walker’s letter claimed that, "Since August, 2002, Iran has had a secret nuclear program,” meant for weapons production. That is simply a lie and a piece of false propaganda. Iran has been enriching uranium for use in atomic energy for electricity. As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, Iran has every right to enrich uranium (a low level of enrichment) for the purpose of producing electrical energy. The IAEA has stated unequivocally that they have "no credible information” that there have been any "weapons-grade” enrichment activities. Israel, on the other hand refuses to sign the nuclear weapons treaty, and has many secretly, and illegally, developed nuclear warheads, and therefore has no right whatsoever to "lecture” Iran on the subject.
