The "destruction of American liberty, our economy and our way of life” can be directly attributed to eight years of George W. Bush, not to a fathom socialist Mr. John MacAllister alludes to ("Guest perspective: Put the brake on loss of freedom” in the April 5 edition of the Daily Journal).
"Ours is a system of corporate socialism, where companies capitalize their profits and socialize their losses ...” (Ralph Nader). That is why we bailed out the banks and the auto industry.
If Mr. MacAllister and the Rove/Limbaugh/Beck/Tea Bagger crowd despise a socialist form of government, then I am sure they will not drive on our government-built highways and roads, nor use our libraries, or send their families to public schools, and certainly, above all, when the time comes, they will not apply for and cash their Social Security checks or use Medicare.
And, yes, Mr. MacAllister is right — for eight years, the inmates were running the asylum. Only the criminally insane would lie America into a war killing over a million human beings and continue an attack on a primitive country, Afghanistan, with 21st Century state-of-the-art weapons in search of an illusive ghost, Osama Bin Laden, when, in reality, the Iraq war was nothing more than the United States wanting to control the second largest reserve of oil in the Middle East, and to construct an energy pipeline across Afghanistan.
