Clifford passed away recently in his home with loving family and dedicated caregivers honoring him and providing peace and comfort in his last days.
Clifford was born in St. Paul Minnesota, moved to San Francisco in his early 20s and lived as a longtime resident of Burlingame, California.He was the son of George and Friedericka Semmler.
Clifford is survived by his wife Dorothy (73 years) and daughter Sarah (Peter) Santora and son Martin (Michelle) Semmler. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth (Barbara) Semmler. He was also predeceased by one brother, three sisters and grandaughter Hannah Semmler
Clifford enjoyed the blessing of nine grandchildren;Matthew (Neena) Semmler, Hannah Semmler, Abigail (Brett) Rothberger, Jessica (Jared) Macedo, Michael (Janelle) Santora, Stephen (Julia) Santora, Scott (Jordan) Semmler, Daniel (Katrina) Semmler, Julia (Matthew) Hoover,five great-grandchildren; Kenley and Turner Mills, June and Maddox Macedo, Joseph Santora and the joyous expectation of a 6th great grandchild.Clifford is also survived by his niece Jennifer Cid, nephew Steve Annen and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Clifford graduated from Grant High School in Portland, Oregon and attended college in Oregon.He served his country in the branch of the Marines during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Cliff was an entrepreneur, Little League coach, world explorer and RV traveler.He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to Bluegrass music.Clifford was employed for many years as a Sales Professional in the construction business.
Clifford found, most importantly, the desire to serve in many capacities as a longtime faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlingame.He was a child of God and a man of faith.He knew the importance of love, gratitude and forgiveness and the value of knowing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.He shared this joy with his family and friends.
Living 99 years Clifford experienced the many ups and downs of life alwaysbeing grateful for those experiences and how they shaped him and grew his faith.His love for all things chocolate, a donut here and there, a good German meal and beer were also what brought him great satisfaction.
As a man who valued his faith, family and love of his country he will be missed and affectionately remembered.
Memorial services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial services were under the direction of Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home.
