There was no controversy last night when the city council voted to approve every item on the agenda unanimously.
The legislative committee, Mayor Jan Epstein and Deputy Mayor John Lee, met last week in order to choose propositions and measures it wanted the council to support. "We choose certain measures and propositions to support or oppose that we think will affect the city," Epstein said.
The council voted unanimously to approve all the measures and propositions the committee recommended. This included support for Measure D, the school bond initiative. Tom Mohr, superintendent of the San Mateo Union High School District, and Bob Arnold, associate superintendent of business services, attended the meeting and spoke briefly to the council.
"We cannot keep up with the conditions of the buildings, we need to modernize," Mohr said. "We think $137.5 million is a moderate amount to ask. It will cost the average tax payer $35 per year."
The council also approved support of Senator Feinstein Gun Licensing and Record of Transfer Bill. The council supported it in recommendation of Police Chief Susan Manheimer. The bill will set up a system of licensing for every owner of handguns and all semi-automatic firearms. It will also require that all sales and transferring of firearms be closely monitored.
Among the propositions approved is Proposition 35, the council believes it will give the city more flexibility in hiring out private contractors. Prop 35 will amend the constitution and eliminate restrictions on state and local contracts with private entities for architectural, engineering services, and construction project delivery.

The council opposed Proposition 37 because it will mean an even greater amount of legislators or voters will be needed to establish certain regulations.
It will require a two-thirds vote of state legislature, and a majority or two-thirds vote of the local electorate vote to establish some regulatory charges concerning the environment and economy.
"It will restrict the city's ability to make regulatory fees," Epstein said.
The council will support Proposition 39. This will enable local school bonds to pass with a 55 percent vote rather than a two-thirds vote by the local electorate.
The council was also in favor of supporting Measure B, which will replace the county forensic crime laboratory with a more modern and updated facility.
