Friday's subtropical rainstorm proved to be a mild one, and the National Weather Service says it's likely to stay that way through the end of the year.
Weatherman Steve Anderson said Friday's storm "is number one out of three'' lined up to hit the Bay Area like a set of waves. Even so, he said, "the moisture and wind flow is coming from the southwest,'' meaning mild temperatures and winds.
Despite the relaxed forecast, some local officials are preparing for the worst.
In San Mateo County, the Department of Public Works has pallets of sandbags available at its maintenance yard in Redwood City. Crews are patrolling known trouble spots where drainage systems have a tendency to clog or trees are liable to fall.
