A traffic stop over the weekend in San Mateo led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy after police allegedly found in his possession a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen.
The stop occurred at about 3:47 a.m. Sunday near Third Avenue and South Norfolk Street, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
During the stop, officers found a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Police alleged it was in the possession of the teenage driver, police said.
Investigators alleged the handgun had been reported stolen in Contra Costa County. The driver, a 17-year-old Foster City resident whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested and taken to Hillcrest Juvenile Hall.
Police said he was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possessing stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and being a minor in possession of a handgun.
