Burlingame recently inched closer to filling in the gaps along the Bay Trail as it accepted an additional $34,000 in improvements along its shoreline.
"This is one more small link in completing the Bay Trail system here in Burlingame," said Assistant Director of Public Works Frank
Erbacher.
The trail extends from Millbrae to the south of Burlingame where Embassy Suites is located on Bayshore Highway. The parcel of land in question is at Airport Road and Bayshore Highway. There are approximately four more gaps to complete Burlingame's part of the Bay Trail, according to Erbacher.
It is not expected that the city of Burlingame will foot the bill for these additional improvements.

"The rest will be done when a developer comes along and develops it," said Erbacher. "We're waiting for the developers to step in. No one wants to take part of their cash cow to make space for bike trails, but eventually they do. They redevelop the area and they have to."
The parcel that was recently widened and extended was done through grant funds. It will cover only about 300 feet of the unmarked areas along the trail. The improvements to the trail include cleaning and grubbing, a trail excavation, irrigation, 90 days worth of maintenance, a bench, roadway mobilization, erosion control as well as trees, shrubs and a bench.
The improvement project was funded by a grant from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and will have no fiscal impact on the city of Burlingame.
