Incumbent Mark Addiego is set to return for another term on the South San Francisco City Council but it is likely too early to tell which two others will join him on the dais as a race among three other candidates is too close to call.
The eventual two victors in the tight race between incumbent Pradeep Gupta and challengers Flor Nicolas and Mark Nagales will share the responsibility of allocating additional revenue generated by voters agreeing to hike South San Francisco’s hotel tax and establish a commercial cannabis business tax. Rosa Acosta will be the new city clerk as well, following her defeat of Caitlin Bortoli in the race to fill the position vacated by Krista Martinelli, who opted not to seek re-election.
Addiego led all vote getters in the City Council race, pulling down 22 percent of the vote to likely earn re-election, according to initial returns from the county Elections Office. Nicola and Nagales collected 18 percent of the vote, while Gupta gathered 17 percent of the vote, as the three race for two more vacant seats on the City Council. At last count, Nicolas was in second place with 3,063 votes, followed by Nagales with 3,026 votes and Gupta, with 2,855 votes.
Meanwhile challenger Kamala Silva received 16 percent of the vote, with 2,574 votes, followed by fellow challenger Steven Ponce-Ramirez, who collected 7 percent of the vote.
