Redwood City police arrested a man who they believe is responsible for vandalizing more than a dozen businesses downtown.
Roman Leoncontreras was taken into custody Thursday after being identified as a suspect in the spree that left at least 14 businesses with damaged glass. Several had an “R” carved into their windows, which police allege indicated the initial of Leoncontreras’s first name.
The vandalism occurred between July 12 and July 13, police said in a news release.
One of the business owners who was victimized allegedly identified Leoncontreras in the area on Thursday and pointed police officers towards him.
Surveillance footage later reviewed by police allegedly bolstered their belief that Leoncontreras was the person responsible. He was arrested on felony vandalism accusations and for an outstanding warrant and was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility with bail set at $25,000, according to jail records.
The case remained active as of Saturday. Anyone with information was asked to call Redwood City Police Sgt. Figueroa at (650) 780-7621.
