What if we had 34 gospels telling us about Jesus instead of only that famous quartet of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John?
Well, there were 34, says Charles Hedrick of Southwest Missouri State University, writing in Bible Review magazine. Others could provide even longer lists.
Hedrick belongs to the Jesus Seminar, whose work undermines the authenticity of much of the New Testament while promoting writings the ancient Christians regarded as spurious and kept out of the Bible.
Could the rejected gospels possibly preserve authentic material on Jesus' deeds and sayings? Hedrick contends,
